ESPN says the first-ever Las Vegas Grand Prix race attracted an average of 1.3 million viewers in the United States.

The sports broadcaster says Saturday's event was the most-viewed Formula One race since the Canadian Grand Prix, which aired on broadcast television in June.

It was also the third-largest F1 audience of the season on cable and sixth-largest overall on ESPN's platforms this season. It was also the most-watched telecast of any kind on cable after 8 p.m. PT. Saturday night and in the overnight hours.

Viewership peaked at 1.5 million between 10:15 and 10:30 p.m.

The qualifying race, which began at about midnight Saturday, also averaged 626,000 viewers.

ESPN held exclusive broadcast rights for the race and also made it available for streaming on ESPN+. The broadcaster says it was the second most-viewed F1 race on the streaming platform, behind the Miami Grand Prix.
