Former Nevada baseball catcher Chris Gimenez was called up to the Cubs on Saturday from Triple A Iowa.

Gimenez had been in Iowa all season. The Cubs had to make the decision to either move him up to Chicago, or let him go due to a veteran's opt-out clause in his contract that was coming up soon. The opt-out clause stated that if Gimenez wasn't moved up to Chicago by a certain date in the season then he could become a free agent.
