Hundreds of thousands of refrigerators are being recalled due to an issue with the ice bucket posing a choking hazard to customers.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Electrolux Group is recalling 383,240 (In addition, about 5,785 units were sold in Canada) Frigidaire branded side by side refrigerators with Slim Ice buckets.

The recall says the refrigerators contain an ice bucket assembly component that can break, causing plastic pieces to enter the ice bucket which can pose choking and laceration hazards to consumers if the pieces are dispensed out of the ice bucket.

The refrigerators were sold from Nov. 15 through Sept. 2019 at Lowe’s, Home Depot and other stores nationwide and online at Frigidaire.com.

Electrolux Group has received 343 reports of plastic pieces breaking off, including two incidents resulting in laceration and ingestion injuries when pieces were dispensed out of the bucket, the CPSC shared.

If your fridge falls under the recall, immediately stop using the ice maker. Consumers can contact Electrolux Group to request a replacement ice bucket assembly component.
